Fit for Golf?
Once upon a time two golfers were talking at a party I was attending
and they were both very worried about their game.
Not an unusual conversation you would say but this one in particular
caught my attention because both of them were saying that, because
they were getting older, they were finding it much more difficult to
enjoy their golf.
(Neither of them was much over 40).
They talked about getting tired and suffering various aches and
pains after a round of golf and complained that their swing was no
longer as smooth as it used to be.
They were strangers to me but I gathered they were both in sedentary
occupations and obviously their golf was their sole way of getting any
exercise.
The conversation wasn’t a ‘private’ one so I joined in eventually and
asked if either of them had thought about doing a bit of warming up
before their game and perhaps doing a few very simple exercises
for a few minutes two or three times a week.
I didn’t want to sound as though I was lecturing them so I just
suggested they each got a copy of “The Ultimate Golf Fitness Guide”
by Mike Pedersen found here:-

I said it may be of use to them but only if they acted on what it offers.
It is full of simple advice on getting fit enough to enjoy golf at any
age but will only work if you try it.
Every story should have a happy ending but unfortunately I don’t
know for sure that they took my advice although the mutual friend,
whose party I was at, did say that they both seem to be playing better
recently. Perhaps they did listen!
Have you found that a little exercise, particularly if you are older, has helped your game?
Let me know what you think below – tell me your story!
